This is the first volume of the Neil Young Archives series of box sets, produced by Neil Young himself. This series is the definitive, comprehensive, chronological survey of his entire body of work. Volume I covers the period from his earliest recordings with the Squires in Winnipeg, 1963, through to his classic 1972 album, Harvest and beyond, including studio and live tracks with the legendary Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Neil Young with Crazy Horse. This Blu Ray disc edition contains 10 discs, each in its own custom sleeve. 9 of these discs hold a total of 128 tracks (12 hidden), all presented in ultra high resolution 24-bit/192 Khz stereo PCM state-of-the-art master quality sound, and featuring nearly 60 previously unreleased songs, versions, mixes, or rare tracks. Skeletons & Majesties Live is a live recording of the band’s performance at the legendary Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland on April 29th, 2011.
Gamma Ray have long been considered a metal band full of surprises which may be one of the reasons why their fan base continues to flourish. Spring 2011 saw the four musicians embark on a club tour through Germany and Switzerland, expanding on the concept of their exceptional EP Skeletons & Majesties (new versions of songs which didn’t receive the attention they deserve, as well as unplugged versions of some of our classics) on stage. The band’s aficionados know that Gamma Ray is guaranteed to deliver yet another full frontal assault on the senses.
Riddled with behind the scenes footage and exclusive interviews, this live release contains the last shows the guys played with drummer Daniel which makes it a nice farewell to Daniel but also marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band. /
Before she collapsed from an overdose in The Rose, turned the tables on her kidnappers in Ruthless People, got even with her ex in The First Wives Club and sold all those Beaches albums, she was first and foremost the Divine Miss M., who perfected her act belting tunes and cracking X-rated jokes to the patrons of gay bathhouses. But the lady could sing, and when someone finally wised up and put her on vinyl (still vinyl; it was 1972), her multi-tracked rendition of “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, with that incomparable voice covering for all three Andrews Sisters, topped the charts. Thirty-six years later, the stage may be bigger — they don’t come much bigger than the The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas — the sequins are more plentiful, the backing orchestra is certainly more polished, the accompanying dancers (a trio of Staggering Harletts and an even larger retinue of Caesar Salad Girls) are far more coordinated, but the essential Bette Midler is unchanged. “Salty songs and dirty jokes put my daughter through private school!” she tells the crowd. “I’ve been telling these jokes for forty years . . . and you’ve been laughing at ’em for forty years” — for which the People’s Diva gives her sincere thanks.
