When Casey announced their break-up in 2019, it felt like a premature end. With their two albums “Love Is Not Enough” (2016) and “Where I Go When I Am Sleeping” (2018), the Welsh five-piece had established themselves as one of the most exciting bands on the British alternative scene in just a few years.

Some four years later, the band is now back; not only in front of a sold-out crowd at their first gig, but also with new music in hand. Listening to the new songs, it’s clear that the band needn’t worry about the integrity of their new creative vision or their emotional involvement in it. The new music is quintessential Casey, open hearts dripping with the same kind of pain and trauma that characterized the band from the beginning. Because Casey songs don’t just reflect the feelings that inspire them – they embody them. That hasn’t changed.

South Wales has been home to many incredible artists, but none compare to the melancholy, heartfelt post-hardcore outfit that is Casey. Their sophomore album “Where I Go When I Am Sleeping” is a beautiful palette of some of the most raw, intense passages infused with post-rock, melodic edges that resonate in an overwhelming manner. Casey are a band whose music is not defined by their image, or where they come from; how they met, or where they’ve been before now. Casey is a means of self-expression created with no underlying motive, only the wish to experience and relate. Music is their labour of love.
