This CD presents acclaimed conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy with the NHK Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo performing Maurice Ravel’s most famous orchestral works. The violinist Mayu Kishima joins the orchestra to perform the Tzigane. Ravel created this piece to suggest a Hungarian rhapsody, with a slow tempo in the first movement and a fast-paced second movement, Initially written for violin and piano, Ravel left this later arrangement for orchestra. Also included is the Bolero, Ravel’s last work for orchestra.
