Aftermath, released in April 1966 by Decca, is the first masterpiece by The Rolling Stones. Composers of the tracks present on their albums since Out Of Our Heads (1965), the duo Jagger & Richards can still rely on the intact genius of Brian Jones for arrangements and to create unique atmospheres with each track. Lady Jane is one of the most romantic songs in the band’s repertoire. Here again the medieval atmosphere is particularly well rendered. The Rolling Stones are definitely no longer a simple rock’n’roll or rhythm’n’blues cover band, but already the equals of The Beatles or The Kinks. A macho classic par excellence, Under My Thumb recalls the fascination of women for these messy: the androgynous blonde, the sporty lippu and the scoundrel of the suburbs ravage the hearts and throw the groupies out of their limousines. But the biggest emotional moment of Aftermath takes place when the take of Goin’ Home does not stop after the usual few minutes. It is then a precious moment of live in the studio, stolen from the biggest blues rock band of the moment. Long before anthologies and other compilations of unreleased and rare tracks were released, The Rolling Stones offered their fans eleven minutes at their side in the studio. Grandiose and unforgettable, only the image is missing.
