The album features guest vocal performances from Ayra Starr, Kim Chae-won, and Jon Bellion.

Tori Kelly (born December 14, 1992, Wildomar, Riverside, California, USA) is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. She received recognition at the age of 14 after posting her videos on YouTube. At the age of 16, Kelly passed a musical casting for the TV show American Idol. After dropping out of the show, Kelly began working on her own music and in 2012 released her first self-produced, written and mixed EP, titled “Handmade Songs By Tori Kelly”. The following year, after watching her YouTube videos, Scooter Braun became Kelly’s manager. He led her to the label Capitol Records, with which she signed a contract in September 2013. The singer’s second EP was Forewordruen, released in October 2013 as her first release on a major label. On June 23, 2015, Kelly’s first album, Unbreakable Smileruen, was released. The lead single, Nobody Loveruen, was released in the spring and became her first song to hit the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. Kelly was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 58th Grammy Ceremony.

Two-time GRAMMY winner Tori Kelly’s new album, Inspired By True Events, is released on Capitol/School Boy Records/Universal Music Canada. Kelly produced Inspired By True Events and co-wrote all of the songs. Jimmy Napes (Sam Smith, Disclosure, Mary J. Blige), co-produced the album and co-wrote several songs, including the first single, “Change Your Mind.” Inspired By True Events follows Tori’s 2018 album, Hiding Place, which won the GRAMMY Award for Best Gospel Album while the chart-topping lead single, “Never Alone” (Feat. Kirk Franklin), took the Best Gospel Performance/Song prize. This deluxe edition features two previously unreleased bonus tracks.

The 26-year-old released a deeply personal, acoustic ballad called “Change Your Mind” in January, and now follows it up with an equally intimate and heartfelt tune called “Sorry Would Go A Long Way.” Like “Change Your Mind,” the song was produced by Jimmy Napes. He knows that restraint is essential when working with a powerful vocalist (see his many collaborations with Sam Smith) and works similar magic with Tori.

It’s not unheard of for Christian and gospel singers to make the leap to pop music, but it’s a bit more rare for an artist to pivot in the opposite direction. Tori Kelly’s debut, Unbreakable Smile, was a star-studded affair aimed straight at the charts, executive-produced by Max Martin and featuring a collab with Ed Sheeran. Her second album, Hiding Place, is full-on gospel, but (good news!) Kelly’s pop ambitions remain fully intact. The orchestral-soul flourishes of opener “Masterpiece (feat. Lecrae)” and the funky R&B lilt of “Sunday” seem to proclaim that these are not your grandmother’s Sunday-go-to-meeting church songs. Even when traditional hymns are her source material, as in the devotional “Psalm 42” and the a cappella “Soul’s Anthem (It Is Well),” she transforms them into rousing, rhythmic choruses.

Jon Batiste has teamed up with Tori Kelly for a new duet titled “Sing.” Over a moving and joyful production, the two offer an ode to their profession, laying down verses about how they sing to soothe the woes of life.
The soulful tune starts with a slow tempo that picks up right around the chorus. As the tempo changes, the song picks up this groove that makes you want to get up and dance.
Batiste shared in an Instagram post, “I just love this lady—she is one of the best singers in the world. This song is healing and I bet it’ll make your heart SING!!”
With the release of “Sing,” Batiste announced the deluxe edition of his latest album, WE ARE, which will arrive on October 15. This new version adds six new tracks featuring appearances from some music friends, including BJ The Chicago Kid, Big Chief Romeo, Big Freedia and Kelly.
The original album arrived earlier this spring and featured the breakthrough single, “I Need You.”
Back in July, Jon Batiste partnered with Spotify to launch their Live At Electric Lady EP series with Electric Lady Studios. The Spotify exclusive eight-song EP included new renditions of his WE ARE songs and his twist on classics.
Kelly has been keeping a relatively low profile as far as music goes this year. She will reprise her role as Meena, the singing elephant, in Sing 2.
In 2020, she released two projects: her Solitude EP and the holiday-themed album, A Tori Kelly Christmas.
