For our OPENING CONCERT in the beautiful surroundings of Silent Green, a former crematorium and now arts and cultural centre in the north of Berlin, we have invited the legendary ambient pioneers TANGERINE DREAM, considered by many as the most influential German electronic band music after Kraftwerk. From their early experimental krautrock beginnings, over the last 50 years, the band has released more than 100 studio albums and over 60 film scores. Indeed, it is impossible to fully measure this band’s impact. Ambient music and much electronic music would simply not exist in the form it is without them. Despite the death of founding member Edgar Froese in 2015, the band have continued to release music with Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane, and Paul Frick creating the subsequent albums “Quantum Gate” and “Raum” based on Froese’s musical sketches and ideas. On stage, Tangerine Dream can be likened to an elemental force with soaring soundscapes that tower over the traditional music conventions into cosmic grandeur, roving through their extensive catalogue of music with tracks overlapping to mould the past into the present.

It is from 1981 the line up of Franke Froese Schmoelling responsible for other film scores Risky Business, The keep etc. It comes in standard plastic jewel case with a fold out booklet of reading about the movie and the soundtrack score, 36 minutes duration and digital remastered sound. There are repeating motiffs or themes, and common to tangerine dream some of the score is taken from Exit particularly the track Remote Viewing. Most of the music is ambient, atmospheric clearly the trademark sequencer blitz is absent though some percussion similar to The Soldier can be heard in two tracks. If you collect TD soundtrack specifically from the 80s then no reason to pass on this one. For a fan like me who has over 500 of their recordings including the bootlegs and fan recordings then this is a must have since it is an official release with album cover. It seems this is the beginning of the release of vintage classic TD from the vaults. So to further this endeavor may the post Edgar Froese TD led by Thorsten Q and Yamane to stop carrying the name of Tangerine Dream and allow Baumann, Jerome , Franke, Paul and Johannes to reform and dig out the classic vintage archival recordings…
