Multi-talented Seth MacFarlane, comedian and creator of the cartoon cult series “Family Guy” and “American Dad” as well as the sci-fi comedy “The Orville,” is also a great swing singer “on the side,” as he has already proven with a handful of upbeat Sinatra-style albums. Now he presents a nostalgically swinging Christmas album in the Hollywood style of the fifties, in which he is fabulously supported as a duet partner by singing actress colleague Liz Gillies.

Academy Award-nominated and Grammy-nominated writer, singer, actor, producer and director, Seth MacFarlane has recently completed his first-ever Christmas album. Following his critically acclaimed 2011 debut, Music Is Better Than Words, and a 2013 Oscar Nomination for co-writing “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” from Ted, the record will be available at stores everywhere and digital retailers just in time for the holiday season via Republic Records.

Once again, MacFarlane teamed up with composer, arranger, and producer Joel McNeely. The album features a 52-piece orchestra recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios and a bevy of London’s premier players. Among the musicians in the orchestra were jazz legend Peter Erskine on the drums and former Frank Sinatra bassist Chuck Berghoffer.

For the album, MacFarlane and McNeely cherry-picked both timeless holiday songs and lesser-known gems. MacFarlane slides from a warm, introspective introduction with a vocal quintet into a bright, up-tempo swing in “Let It Snow”, and brings a new interpretation to the Lee Gordon rarity “Christmas Dreaming”. Continuing a longtime friendship and creative partnership, Norah Jones joins him for Seger Ellis and Al Stillman’s “Little Jack Frost Get Lost”, while Sara Bareilles lends her powerful pipes to Frank Loesser’s “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.

For Seth MacFarlane, “blue” means less balladic. He’s announcing a new album on the way, “Blue Skies,” and says it marks a return to a more swinging style than the softer approach he employed on his last record.

Out May 20, the seventh album from the “Family Guy” creator and jazz cat will again see him working with a catalog of classics, and again see him working closely with arranger and conductor Andrew Cottee. Still, it’ll mark a turnaround from their previous release.

The creator and multi-voice talent of Family Guy (among other shows) returns for his third album of American Songbook era classics, showcasing that his voice can do anything!

“There was a time during the mid-1950s and early 1960s when popular song was stretching its creative boundaries, experimenting with more ambitious structures and tones. During this period, a song set out to really tell a story: not just with the lyric and the vocal, but with the arrangements and orchestral interpretations. The songs on this record attempt to do just that.” –Seth MacFarlane (more…)
