Originally formed as a duo, Schiller was founded by Christopher von Deylen and Mirko von Schlieffen in 1998. Their first album Zeitgeist hit the clubs and dance music scene, but it was their 2001 album, Weltreise, which featured the single “Dream of You”featuring Peter Heppner, which won the ECHO award in 2002 for the Best Dance Single of the Year. The original duo split early on since Schlieffen wanted to focus mostly on trance music, while the remaining member Deylen wanted a more eclectic electronica sound. This branch has lead Schiller on to the projects tenth studio album Morgenstund created by the German electronic musician Christopher von Deylen. Released on March 22, 2019, Deylen has collaborated with singers Nena, Tricia McTeague, Yalda Abbasi, Schwarz, Jhyve and Rebecca Ferguson, plus the musicians Giorgio Moroder and Jan Blomqvist and the music group Tangerine Dream.
Here is where it gets super interesting, Morgenstund is the projects first album to be produced in groundbreaking Dolby Atmos surround sound. Two deluxe versions of Schiller, one after the other. After Colors in autumn 2020 (accompanied by two live records and extras), under the name Christopher von Deylen, now the German returns with his most famous alias, stolen from the writer Friedrich Schiller in 1998. He read the latter’s famous poem Das Lied von der Glocke while he was preparing the release of his first single – indeed, his first hit – Das Glockenspiel. In these times of quarantine, Schiller offers a big dose of music, with 28 tracks in total, cut between the studio album Summer in Berlin and a live recording that takes in his greatest hits, also recorded in the German capital. As ever, Schiller is flanked by vocalists on this new offering, which is filled with nods to Jean-Michel Jarre, the Pet Shop Boys or Tangerine Dream. The latter’s Thorsten Quaeschning appears on Dem Himmel so nah. We also find Tricia McTeague on the American quarter-hour of Miracle. McTeague accompanies Schiller on tour and is one of the great voices of electronic music from her side of the Rhine, who also notably performs for trance legend Paul van Dyk. The high point of the album is of course the title track, Summer in Berlin. It’s a little happening that brings Schiller together with the pioneering German new wave band Alphaville, represented by an impeccable Marian Gold. Schiller is a musical project of the German musician Christopher von Dailen.
The project was named after Friedrich Schiller, an 18th-century German poet who is an idol of von Dailen.
In 2001, Christopher von Dailen, together with Peter Heppner, released the single Dream of You, which received many awards (including the German ECHO award as the best dance single of the year) and became one of the most successful songs of the band.
It is noteworthy that von Dailen himself does not sing, instead attracting singers and singers from Germany and abroad.
