The eighth studio long-player from the stalwart Chicago-based melodic hardcore punk unit, Wolves sees Rise Against speaking truth to power in an age where everybody has a megaphone. While social media may be an effective and expeditious tool with which to air one’s grievances, few things punctuate invective as well as stadium-sized hooks, gang vocals, and pick slides, all three of which the band deploy with utter impunity. The objects of the Rise Against’s derision are left intentionally vague — each song is essentially a call to arms for something or another — but it’s difficult not to take into account the incredibly divisive political climate in which they were created. That populist shadow looms largest on the fiery “Welcome to the Breakdown,” the cheekily titled “Mourning in Amerika,” and the nervy lead single “Violence.” Stylistically speaking, the 11-track set doesn’t deviate much from the formula the band established on its prior outings, but it will no doubt please longtime fans just looking for something new to pump their fists to. ~ James Christopher Monger

Big names of the Chicago punk scene, the frantic guys from Rise Against change brackets with an album compiling their biggest titles in classic acoustic versions. With The Ghost Note Symphonies Vol 1, strings have such a place of honor that the house drummer, Brandon Barnes, only uses his sticks! After the success in 2017 of its eighth album Woles, the band formed in 1999 can now try its hand at new interpretations and in-depth work underlining a true musical maturity. The Ghost Note Symphonies Vol 1 is thus far from fulfilling the criteria of hardcore punk, unlike Revolutions per Minute or The Sufferer and the Witness. More spacious, we discover here pop ballads, almost folkloric, that had been hidden up until now. Now, this is toward lyrics and violins that the attention will turn. – Anna Coluthe

Following June’s excellent Nowhere Generation album, Rise Against have announced a new ‘live expansion’ version of the record: an EP entitled Nowhere Sessions.
The Chicago punk legends’ new six-track release is due out on November 12 via Loma Vista, and consists of live versions of Nowhere Generation songs Talking To Ourselves, Broken Dreams, Inc. and the title-track, plus their 2008 mega-hit Savior, and covers of Misfits’ Hybrid Moments and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Fortunate Son.

Recorded almost entirely remotely between Los Angeles and Glasgow, members Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty and Iain Cook self-produced and mixed the album via video calls and audio sharing programs to create something that is unique and special, but inherently CHVRCHES.

Rise Against has released a new song called “Last Man Standing.”
The track follows the Chicago punk outfit’s 2021 album Nowhere Generation and looks to be a preview of a follow-up.
In the link to download or stream “Last Man Standing,” Rise Against teases something called Nowhere Generation II. While no other info was given, it seems likely that Nowhere Generation II will be a companion album or an EP to the first Nowhere Generation.
Meanwhile, Rise Against is gearing up to launch a U.S. tour in July. The bill also includes The Used and Senses Fail.
