Albanian cellist and composer Redi Hasa has shared his enthralling new album My Nirvana via Ponderosa Music Records. Nirvana’s Nevermind began circulating in the underground after the Albanian regime had been banning the entirety Western music, from the Beatles to Milli Vanilli, for half a century. But still, the banned music was moving around circles, as secret and precious as an audio samizdat.

Having worked for many years as part of Ludovico Einaudi’s touring group and performing on Einaudi’s Seven Days Walking project, cellist Redi Hasa releases his first solo album, The Stolen Cello. Inspired by Hasa’s own story of escaping with little more than his instrument from turmoil in his native Albania to Italy in the `90s, the album showcases the “singing” nature of the cello, exploring its human-like voice on 12 original compositions and collaborations with contemporary composers.
