Orchestre du mai musical florentin fondé en 1928 par Vittorio Gui, l’Orchestre et Chœur du Mai Musical florentin fait partie des références du genre en Europe et anime la très intense vie culturelle de Florence avec ses saisons toujours riches, tant en concerts qu’en opéras. La continuité de ses directeurs (Riccardo Muti entre 1969 et 1981, Zubin Mehta depuis 1985) prouve si besoin était la rigueur de cette institution prestigieuse qui dispute la place d’orchestre numéro un à La Scala.

Rigoletto is regarded as the first operatic masterpiece of Verdi’s mature artistic period.
