Richter has pared back sections of his best-selling 8.5-hour epic SLEEP to their basic structures to create three extended solo piano tracks for this new digital EP, out on World Sleep Day. “The piano is where I go to daydream, because composing, in a way, is daydreaming as well. It’s trying to encounter other aspects of your mind, things maybe you’re not so aware of consciously.”

The unique collaboration stemmed from a suggestion by the film’s director Johan Renck, with Richter creating the music for the track before Sparks contributed melody and lyrics to create the melancholic finale to the film’s soundtrack.

Richter harnesses his vast sonic palette and the direct emotionality of the film’s narrative for the soundtrack, recording orchestral music with a 70-piece orchestra at his studio, while also employing various analogue synthesisers, creating faux Baroque material inspired by Czech composer Jan Dismas Zelenka and utilising the language of experimental prog rock such as Pink Floyd, Hawkwind and Sun Ra. The results are an immersive, supernatural aural companion to the film. Richter’s official soundtrack for Spaceman is released on Friday March 1st via Decca Records/Universal Music Canada.

My Brilliant Friend (Italian: L’amica geniale) is an Italian- and Neapolitan-language coming-of-age drama television series created by Saverio Costanzo for HBO, RAI and TIMvision. Named after the first of four novels in the Neapolitan Novels series by Elena Ferrante, it is set to adapt the entire literary work over four eight-episode seasons. The series is a co-production between Italian production companies Wildside, Fandango, The Apartment, Mowe and international film groups Umedia and Fremantle.On April 30, 2020, the series was renewed for a third season, based on the third novel in the series, Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay. The eight-episode third season premiered on Rai 1 on February 6, 2022, and will premiere on HBO on February 28, 2022.

Max Richter wrote the score for “White Boy Rick”, the story of teenager Richard Wershe Jr., who became an undercover informant for the FBI during the 1980s and was ultimately arrested for drug-trafficking and sentenced to life in prison. Directed by Yann Demange and starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

With „Never Look Away“ (German title „Werk Ohne Autor“), inspired by the early life and career of renowned contemporary artist Gerhard Richter, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck once again looks into the dark corners of his country’s recent history. The German candidate for the Oscar in the „Best Foreign Language Film“ category, the drama passes through three periods of German history to recount the story of the dramatic life of the artist Kurt (Tom Schilling), his passionate love for Elisabeth (Paula Beer), and the far-reaching relationship with his devious father-in-law Professor Seeband (Sebastian Koch) whose hand in fateful events in Kurt‘s life ultimately comes to light in his art and paintings. The soundtrack was scored by composer Max Richter.

Max Richter has announced he will release Voices 2, the second album in the pioneering audio-visual Voices project, co-created with his artistic partner Yulia Mahr, on 9 April 2021. Voices was inspired by, and features text adapted from, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Voices 2 follows directly from the first part, embodying the Universal Declaration’s aspiration to build a better and fairer world.

The message at the core of Max Richter’s Voices 2 is one of hope. The music, and the video for the debut single ‘Mirrors’, invites us to take a breather from the rolling news agenda and to reflect instead on the aspirations in the Universal Declaration. Despite its sombre mood, positivity and a sense of potential in a hopeful new future, runs throughout Voices 2. Yulia Mahr, Max Richter’s filmmaker and visual-artist partner, captures the image of rejuvenation in her video for ‘Mirrors’ as flowers bloom.

Max Richter is paying homage to ground-breaking composer Ludwig van Beethoven on the occasion of his 250th anniversary on 17th December.
