In 2014, Marialy Pacheco’s album INTRODUCING appeared on reverberation, convincing her with her self-confident style and her Cuban temperament. Now she presents another facet of her musical diversity and brought a piece of Cuba to Ludwigsburg for the STUDIO CONCERT. For this recording, the pianist and official “Bösendorfer Artist” chose her “favorite pieces”. They are both current compositions and arrangements, as well as older works by Marialy Pacheco. She draws from Cuban folk music and transforms it into a completely new form. Her engagement with the musical tradition creates a balance between seriousness and technical sophistication on the one hand, and lightness and Caribbean fire on the other.

When Corinna Rottschy and I first met to discuss the project DANZÓN CUBANO, I felt that it would be a special collaboration. I never dreamt it would turn out to be one of the most fulfilling and enriching experiences that I’ve ever had. Furthermore, immortalising this project as an album is a dream come true. I have always loved working with an orchestra. My composition teacher, Mr. Tulio Peramo, told me that nothing compares to the feeling you experience when hearing your music being played by an orchestra for the very first time !
Then, when I became part of that orchestra, and we were playing my music, I was overwhelmed with such joy, happiness and gratitude.

After more than 15 productions for SKIP, does Omar Sosa still have surprises in store? He does, and how! This time in a newly found format where the performing presented on two concert grands brings him on an equal footing with one of the most talented pianists on the jazz scene, the Cuban virtuoso Marialy Pacheco. Journalist Thomas Kölsch described their concert held and recorded live at Beethovenhaus Bonn in striking words: “Fingers whir across keys, give birth to darting notes, phrasings that vie with one another, entwining melodies – music that dances. ” It’s the dialog between two highly gifted artists, two kindred spirits who feint and parry, join forces to sound out the instruments’ possibilities, at times ecstatic, then reassembled to let the flow of emotions run free. While one rides with keyboard runs that pearl from the wrist, the other sets the harmonic foundation. In turn, while he uses frugally placed electronic effects to generate an almost hypnotic atmosphere, she’s the one who employs subtle impulses to find the way out into the next phonic space. The newspaper Bonner Generalanzeiger concludes it’s concert review with the words: “It is a revelation what two exceptional pianists are able to achieve when they can simply let themselves go. ” The sound is extraordinary, authentic and one-of-a-kind. It stokes anticipation for their upcoming concerts this year.
