“What a Man My Man Is” is the name of a No. 1 U.S. country music hit by Lynn Anderson, from 1974. This was Anderson’s last No. 1 country hit, staying at the top for one week and spending a total of nine weeks on the chart. It was also her last pop entry on the Hot 100, reaching number 93. For the next few years, Anderson would place hits in the Country top 15 and 20, but wouldn’t reach the top 10 again until 1979 with “Isn’t it Always Love”. The song has been re-recorded numerous times by Anderson, including on her Grammy-nominated 2004 album, The Bluegrass Sessions.

Smile for Me is a 1974 studio album by country music singer Lynn Anderson. One of two albums released by Lynn Anderson in 1974, the album consisted of 11 tracks and was named for the single “Smile for Me”, the first of two singles released from this album along with “Takin’ to the Wall”. The title track was the first to be released in 1974. The song reached No. 15 on the Billboard Country charts, ending Anderson’s string of nine consecutive top ten hits. Talkin’ to the Wall”, which was originally a country hit for Warner Mack in the mid-1960s, returned her to the top ten, climbing to No. 7 on the country charts. The album peaked at No. 14 on Billboard’s “Top Country Albums” chart in 1974, breaking Anderson’s string of seven consecutive top ten albums.

This song was one of 11 No. 1 country hits for Anderson. Her career was still going strong three years after her major crossover hit, “(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden”. By this time, Anderson’s material had changed to more sophisticated country music, Countrypolitan, which was all about producing and recording more pop-oriented songs in order for country singers to attract a larger listening audience. Even though this song had no hint of traditional country, the song did not make the Billboard’s Pop Hot 100 chart. However, she would crossover onto the pop charts with future hits.
