Gaga, Mark Ronson and BloodPop handled its production with a variety of collaborators including Kevin Parker, Emile Haynie, Jeff Bhasker and Josh Homme. Musically, Joanne is a “stripped-down” country, soft rock and dance-pop record, which emphasize the singer’s vocal abilities. Lyrically, the album delves into the theme of family and life’s emotions; the death of Gaga’s aunt Joanne Stefani Germanotta deeply influenced the record.

A glamorously gaudy, self-made, post-modern diva stitched together from elements of Madonna, David Bowie, and Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga was the first millennial superstar. Mastering the constant connection of the Internet era, Gaga generated countless mini-sensations with her style, her videos, and her music, cultivating a devoted audience she dubbed “Little Monsters.” But it wasn’t just a cult that turned her 2008 manifesto The Fame into a self-fulfilling prophecy: Gaga crossed over into the mainstream, ushering out one pop epoch and kick-starting a new one, quickly making such turn-of-the-century stars as Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears seem old-fashioned. It was quite a trick for any artist to pull off, but especially impressive for one who specialized in repurposing the past (particularly the ’80s) for present use, creating sustainable pop for a digital world. Gaga’s fame soon extended beyond music: she received accolades for her 2015 role in American Horror Story: Hotel and her Oscar-nominated turn in Bradley Cooper’s 2018 remake of A Star Is Born.

“Judas” is a song by American singer Lady Gaga, recorded for her second studio album, Born This Way (2011). It was released by Interscope Records on April 15, 2011 as the second single from the album. Written and produced by Lady Gaga and RedOne, “Judas” is a dance and electro house song about a woman in love with a man who betrayed her. It embodies the incidents that have haunted Gaga in the past, and its core meaning refers to the negative parts of her life that she cannot escape. Gaga has further explained that the song was also about honoring one’s inner darkness in order to bring oneself into the light. The artwork for the single was designed by Gaga in Microsoft Word. In spite of a polarizing impact on several religious groups, the song was generally well received by critics, who likened the song to “Bad Romance” with some noting it should have been the album’s lead single.

“Judas” received generally positive reviews from most music critics. The song has a similar sound to Gaga’s previous RedOne-produced tracks, including “Poker Face”, “LoveGame”, “Bad Romance”, and “Alejandro”. It contains three distinct hooks and a house-influenced break down. Gaga explained that the lines spoken during the breakdown talk about her as beyond redemption, regarding the traditional views of what a woman should be. “Judas” initially had a strong sales opening, but was less successful commercially in comparison to Gaga’s previous singles. The song reached the top ten of the charts in most major music markets, and also reached the top of the charts in South Korea.

A music video for the song was filmed in April 2011, co-directed by Gaga and Laurieann Gibson and co-starring Norman Reedus. It has a Biblical storyline where Reedus played Judas Iscariot and Gaga played Mary Magdalene. The video portrays them as modern day missionaries going to Jerusalem. It included the Biblical story of Judas betraying Jesus, and ended with Gaga as Magdalene getting stoned to death. Before its release, the Catholic League condemned Gaga for the use of religious imagery and her role in the video. However, the video was generally praised by critics and nominated for two awards at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Gaga has performed “Judas” on a number of television shows, including The Graham Norton Show, Saturday Night Live, Good Morning America’s “Summer Concert Series”, the French X Factor as well as on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“Born This Way” is a song by American singer Lady Gaga, and the lead single from her second studio album of the same name. Written by Gaga and Jeppe Laursen, who produced it along with Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow, the track was developed while Gaga was on the road with The Monster Ball Tour. Inspired by 1990s music which empowered women and the gay community, Gaga explained that “Born This Way” was her freedom song. She sang part of the chorus at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in 2010 and announced the song as the lead single from the album, released on February 11, 2011.

“Born This Way” is backed by rumbling synth sounds, a humming bass and additional chorus percussion, with sole organ toward the end. The lyrics discuss the self-empowerment of minorities including the LGBT community as well as racial minorities, referring to “cholas” and “orients”, which drew criticism from Latino and Asian communities. Critics positively reviewed the song, calling it a “club-ready anthem”, though it faced criticism for having similarities with Madonna’s 1989 single “Express Yourself”. The song reached number one in over 25 countries and was her third single to top the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and the 1,000th song in that chart’s history (since 1958) to reach number one. “Born This Way” has sold 8.2 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Nick Knight directed the accompanying music video, which was inspired by surrealist painters like Salvador Dalí and Francis Bacon. Gaga is depicted as giving birth to a new race during a prologue. After a series of dance sequences, the video concludes with the view of a city populated by this race. Critics noted the video’s references to the work of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Björk, and the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen, as well as to Greek mythology and surrealism.

Gaga performed the song at the 53rd Grammy Awards after coming out of an incubating vessel. It was also performed during the last leg of The Monster Ball Tour and on television shows such as Saturday Night Live, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Good Morning America. The song was treated with different remixes, including a “Country Road” version recorded by Gaga herself and another by Indian production duo Salim-Sulaiman. Alice Cooper, Madonna, Katy Perry, Maria Aragon, and the cast of the TV series Glee have covered the song.

“Alejandro” is a song by American singer Lady Gaga. It was released as the third single from her third extended play (EP) The Fame Monster (2009). Co-written and produced by herself and RedOne, the song inspired by her “Fear of Men Monster”, the lyrics portray Gaga bidding farewell to her lovers. Musically, it is a mid-tempo synth-pop song.

Contemporary critics predominantly gave “Alejandro” positive reviews and noted that it takes influence from the pop acts ABBA, Ace of Base and Madonna. The song charted in the United Kingdom and Hungary due to digital sales following the album’s release. Upon release, “Alejandro” charted again in the United Kingdom as well as in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United States while topping the Finnish, Polish, Russian, Bulgarian, and Romanian charts. “Alejandro” became Gaga’s seventh successive single to reach the top-ten of the US Billboard Hot 100.

The accompanying music video was directed by fashion photographer Steven Klein and inspired by Gaga’s love for her gay friends and admiration of gay love. Within the video, Gaga dances with a group of soldiers in a cabaret, interspersed with scenes of Gaga as a nun swallowing a rosary and near-naked men holding machine guns. The music video was controversial and received mixed reviews. Critics complimented its idea and dark nature while the Catholic League criticized Gaga for alleged blasphemy, despite Klein dismissing the idea and claiming that the scene in question (the swallowing of Rosary beads) was Gaga’s “desire to take in the Holy”.[3] Gaga performed the song on the ninth season of American Idol and has performed it on all dates of The Monster Ball Tour. The song was also included on her 2012–13 tour The Born This Way Ball, as well as on her 2014 tour, ArtRave: The Artpop Ball.

Lady Gaga: The Monster Ball Tour, Madison Square Garden Blu-ray AVC 1080i Dolby TrueHD 5.1

Five-time Grammy winner Lady Gaga headlines her first solo HBO concert event when Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden debuts Saturday, May 7. Taped Feb. 21 and 22 at Madison Square Garden in her hometown of New York City, the special spotlights the pop sensation on her sold-out world tour, accompanied by a ten-piece band and ten backup dancers.

Lady Gaga: The Monster Ball Tour – Madison Square Garden arrives on Blu-ray with an AVC encoded 1080i transfer in 1.78:1. While the sharpness of the image here is truly spectacular at times, this transfer is hampered by two recurrent issues which may bother more persnickety videophiles. Because of the aggressive lighting scheme, especially an ultra- saturated blue that bathes the stage and players at various moments, a lot of the action dissolves into posterizing on several occasions. This same aggressive lighting scheme, including a sort of lit wand that Lady Gaga holds (and aims squarely at the camera), also results in noticeable banding, as well as some heavily blooming whites. If you can overlook this issues, though, the rest of this concert looks fantastic, with bright, brilliantly rendered colors, exceptional fine detail and generally solid contrast (within the limits of the lighting as mentioned above). Lady Gaga: Roseland Ballroom Live 1080i HDTV MPA2.0 H.264

Lady Gaga Live at Roseland Ballroom was the first residency show by American singer Lady Gaga. Performed at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan, New York, the residency show began on March 28 and concluded on April 7, 2014, after completing seven shows. It was the final event hosted by the venue after it was announced that it was being closed down and being replaced with a 42-story skyscraper. Gaga revealed that Roseland was the only venue in New York City that she had never played, although she had visited there previously to watch shows. A poster announcing the event was released, showing an old image of Gaga taken before the time she became successful as a recording artist.

As an homage to the venue, the stage was decorated with roses. The multi-leveled set-up consisted of New York City fire escape routes. Other parts of the stage had a ladder reaching the mezzanine floors and a replica of an F train carriage. Gaga’s wardrobe was also rose themed, with leotards, hats and jackets, and instruments adorned with red roses. The main set list for the show encompassed songs from The Fame, The Fame Monster, Born This Way, and Artpop. Some tracks were performed in acoustic versions.

The shows received positive reviews from music critics. Reviewers were impressed by Gaga’s vocals, the choreography, and the overall presentation of the show. The shows were sold out with ticket prices being above the average costs of tickets at the venue. Billboard revealed that the seven dates had sold a total of 24,532 tickets while grossing a total of $1.5 million. Two performances from the show were transmitted on the Late Show with David Letterman, while MTV and Logo TV collaborated to show the behind-the-scenes logistics for the residency. The final show on April 7, 2014 was live-streamed by Verizon Communications.
