Le Souffle des légendes, ensemble Saxo Voce with Charles Berling (reciter), Frank Bradley (piano), Jean-Yves Fourmeau (alto saxophone), Karol Beffa (piano), under the direction of Johan Farjot, works by Karol Beffa, Francis Poulenc, André Caplet, Henri Tomasi.
The Saxo Voce ensemble offers us a French musical journey aboard its new album. On the program, Francis Poulenc’s sextet, André Caplet’s Legend, Henri Tomas’ Concerto, and a Musical Tale by Mathieu Laine set to music by Karol Beffa.
In 2012, Thibaut Canaval founded an ensemble bringing together the entire saxophone family… The saxophone is recognized and appreciated by the public, but has not managed to establish itself like the piano or the violin, it remains a young and unclassifiable instrument .
This singularity leads the Saxo Voce ensemble to produce transcriptions. He succeeded in highlighting the qualities of the saxophone, thus adapting more than thirty works by Bach, Mozart, Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Poulenc, Gershwin, Kodaly, Bernstein…
The Saxo Voce ensemble also wants to defend today’s music by soliciting young and old composers. The Saxo Voce ensemble has performed on France Télévisions and France Musique as well as on stages such as the Salle Cortot, the Seine Musicale, the Bal Blomet, Châteauvallon-Liberté, the National Theater of Zagreb…

With the complicity of the International Nadia and Lili Boulanger Centre, Johan Farjot draws from their published scores as well as from the manuscript treasures of the National Libraries and Archives, exhuming and interpreting three unpublished discoveries, recorded for the first time.

For his first monographic album, Johan Farjot offers a programme of short pieces, for one to eight instruments (New York City, for double saxophone quartet). In this mix of concision and magic, we find the essence of the composer’s interests. Perpetuum mobile, ostinatos, imitations, questions and quick responses: for the most part, the pieces on this album reveal his predilection for a systematic approach. But although he likes symmetry, he likes it just slightly abridged. If he repeats something, it is in order to introduce modifications, however infinitesimal. His clocks are broken, his obsessions are subverted from the interior by delays. If he explores non-modulatory climates, he spices them up with acidic notes. And more generally, if he uses stylistic vocabulary which has already been used by his predecessors, his way of combining it is never conventional.

La magnifique étymologie persane du mot « Caravan » remonte à la nuit des temps, faite de voyages et d’entraides nomades.
Fort de cette poésie immémoriale et s’inspirant bien sûr du légendaire morceau du même nom de Juan Tizol et Duke Ellington, Caravan Party invoque l’amitié en musique, dont le miracle n’a de cesse de se renouveler au Bal Blomet, l’un des plus vieux clubs de jazz d’Europe.
Pensionnaire régulier de ce lieu historique créé en 1924, Johan Farjot a réuni bon nombre des camarades de la série qu’il y anime (aux côtés du saxophoniste Raphaël Imbert), les 1001 Nuits du jazz, avec des alliages inouïs et associations d’artistes inattendues.
