Almost nothing is known about the composer Domenico Maria Dreyer except the approximate dates of his life (ca.1680 – ca.1740). Only six oboe sonatas (which are also wonderfully suitable for the recorder) and two recorder sonatas have survived from his oeuvre. Now Isaac Makhdoomi has recorded all these works together with Sebastian Bausch (harpsichord). In this completeness a WORLD PREMIERE RECORDING.

Isaac Makhdoomi, a Swiss recorder player with Indian roots, fulfilled a childhood dream in July 2322. Together with the proven baroque specialists from the “Ensemble Piccante”, he recorded five flute concertos, an aria and arrangements of well-known Vivaldi works. In the run-up to the recording, there were three concerts with the programme of the album in north-western Switzerland.

Isaac Makhdoomi, Swiss recorder player with an Indian background, presents here together with Sebastian Bausch at the harpsichord a veritable discovery with the sonatas of Domenico Maria Dreyer (ca. 1680 – ca.1740).

From the oevre of this little-known composer, only two recorder sonatas and six oboe sonatas composed around 1725 have survived the test of time, whereby the latter are excellently suited for adaptation on the alto or soprano recorder – a common Baroque practice that Makhdoomi has followed for his recording.

The sonatas are characterized by great musical grace and are stylistically close to the Venetian High Baroque.
