Whether he is scratching out the notes of old romances or tackling standards more seriously, Henri Crolla always does it with happiness. The tender guitar of the one who is then Yves Montand’s regular accompanist does not sound like the others and exudes too much tenderness. Montand also does theater and Crolla then takes the opportunity to meet his musician friends. Maurice Meunier on clarinet, Michel Hausser on vibraphone, Maurice Vander or Martial Solal on piano, but also Emmanuel Soudieux on double bass and Jacques David on drums are the accomplices of his guitar in these Parisian recordings of 1955. The humorous “Je cherche après Titine” used by Charlie Chaplin in his film Les Temps modernes or “The Romance of Maître Pathelin” sung by Tino Rossi meet here “Love For Sale”, “Tenderly” and “Sweet Georgia Brown”, great jazz classics. Henri Crolla has fun, marries swing and poetry. His dreamy music amazes. –Shocker stone

Henri Crolla (born Enrico Crolla; 26 February 1920 – 17 October 1960) was an Italian jazz guitarist and film composer.
Born in Naples, Campania, Italy, to a family of itinerant Neapolitan musicians, he moved with his family to Porte de Choisy in France in 1922 following the rise of fascism in Italy. One of his neighbours was a young Django Reinhardt, with whose family he became close. He also put to music many poems from Prévert’s Paroles with Joseph Kosma. He died in Paris from lung cancer.
