In the vein of Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake deluxe edition LUV vs. The World 2, Music to Be Murdered By – Side B is actually a full-on sequel album with a new collection of 16 songs. It features Dr. Dre, who appears on “Guns Blazing” and co-produced “She Loves Me” and “Discombobulated.” Ty Dolla $ign, DJ Premier, and Skylar Gray also appear on the album.

Without any announcement or promotion, 47-year-old Eminem released his 11th solo album, cheerfully starting 2020. “Music To Be Murdered By” is a kind of horror film for competing rappers, named after the eponymous record of the cult horror director Alfred Hitchcock. He even appears in a tracklist with two hermitages. Throughout the album, Em touches on literally everything: from critics who do not accept his current work, and rappers who provoke a nervous tick in Marshall himself, to memories of parties in the prime of his own popularity and toxic romantic relationships. “Darkness” is one of the most personal tracks on the record, in which Em shares his feelings about the fear of loneliness. I am glad that here Eminem is not afraid to collaborate with new artists Young MA, Anderson .Paak, Juice WRLD and Don Toliver, but also does not forget about old friends represented by Royce Da 5’9 ″, Black Thought, Q-Tip, Skylar Gray and pop stars Ed Sheeran. In the musical component, Em balances between different eras of his work. Dr. Dre, D.A. Doman, Royce, Mr. Porter, The Alchemist, Ricky Racks, Luis Resto and, of course, Eminem himself. Pay attention to the final lines of the intro: “Instead of giving us credit for longevity and the ability to be at such a high level all this time, you tell us that we will no longer be who we were. Curtain Call 2 is one of those titles like Final Destination 2: an absurd name for a sequel but the brand has already been established, so what are you gonna do? In Eminem’s case, he released Curtain Call: The Hits as part of his purported retirement in the mid-2000s. Inactivity didn’t suit Em, so he returned in 2009 with Relapse, a record that kicked off a particularly prolific decade and a half. Curtain Call 2 chronicles the releases since Relapse, featuring most — but not all — of his charting singles, along with a handful of album tracks, non-LP cuts, and three new numbers: “From the D 2 the LBC,” which features Snoop Dogg; “The King and I, ” a contribution to Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis soundtrack featuring CeeLo Green; and “Is This Love (’09),” which showcases 50 Cent. At over two and a half hours, Curtain Call 2 is generous to a fault, playing like an endless streaming playlist instead of a curated compilation, yet it does feature many highlights from Eminem’s mid-career records, including “Crack a Bottle,” “Not Afraid,” “Love the Way You Lie,” “Berzerk,” “The Monster,” “Lucky You,” and “Godzilla.” – Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Originally filmed for US TV station Showtime the show is now available on Blu-ray for the first time and gives us Eminem at his charismatic best.
Presented in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080i “live” transfer, Eminem: Live from New York City arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Filmed at Madison Square Garden in 2005, this show looks good on Blu-ray, but not exceptional. The close-ups are well detailed, contrast is adequate, and clarity pleasing. Multiple strategically positioned cameras are used to capture the impressive stage from a number of different angles. This allows the viewer to get a very good feel of the atmosphere in the venue. This being said, I did notice a bit of motion-judder popping up here and there when the cameras zoom in on Eminem and his guests. There is also some low noise during a few of the panoramic shots. Still, the overall quality of the presentation is good, and I have absolutely no problem recommending Eminem: Live from New York City to you. (Note: This is a Region-Free Blu-ray disc. Therefore, you will be able to play it on your PS3 or SA regardless of your geographical location).
There are three audio tracks on this Blu-ray disc: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1, and LPCM 2.0. I opted for the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track and later on did a few random comparisons with the other two tracks for the purpose of this review.
The “live-effect” is very strong in Eminem: Live from New York City. The crowd noise is almost always very easy to hear, and at times it feels as if the show is actually a large club event (listen to “Business”). Eminem’s singing, however, is clear and easy to follow; there are no disturbing echo effects. This being said, the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track will not impress you with strong surround activity as Eminem’s singing gets priority.
I feel that the LPCM 2.0 track is actually quite suitable for Eminem: Live from New York City. It partially eliminates some of the distracting crowd noises while at the same time it treats Eminem’s singing just as well as the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track does. So, I would certainly recommend that you experiment with it to see how much you like it.
There are no serious issues to report with the Dolby Digital 5.1 track, but I feel that it certainly lacks the qualities the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and LPCM 2.0 track have.
