I’m so excited to have the opportunity to record again with Champian in the duo format. I’m very proud of our first album Dream A Little…. but our friendship and musical partnership has grown so much since that recording and the opportunity to record again is something I’m very grateful for. I would like to sincerely thank Kodi Hutchinson and the team at JazzYYC for providing Champian and I such a wonderfully unique situation for us to record. We both loved the experience and a big thank you to Scott Morin for taking on this production of this project with such elegance and grace.

There are so many variables with recording, so many things that can affect the outcome. I put a lot of thought into Home Cookin’ and what would set me and the band up for success. A rehearsal, two nights performing the music live at Frankie’s Jazz Club in Vancouver and then into the studio. It was perfect! What could possibly go wrong?

Alto saxophonist Cory Weeds teams up with the legendary pianist Harold Mabern and trumpeter Terell Stafford for a spirited live affair at his home base, Frankie’s Jazz Club in Vancouver, B.C..

This particular night was the last of a 5 day tour and the band is firing on all cylinders playing a songs from the Blue Note song book.

A great collection of hard bop anthems from the likes of Jackie McLean, Tina Brooks, Walter Davis Jr. and Mal Waldron.
