Cliff is the 1959 debut album of British singer Cliff Richard and his band the Drifters (later known as the Shadows). The recording is the first white professionally recorded live rock and roll album.

The album is a live-in-the-studio recording of Richard’s and the Shadows’ early rock and roll in front of an invited audience of several hundred fans. It was recorded over two nights during February 1959 in Studio 2 at EMI Recording Studios (later known as Abbey Road Studios) with Norrie Paramor as producer.

The album contains renderings of Richard’s hit single “Move It”, both tracks of the yet to be released Drifters’ instrumental single “Jet Black” and “Driftin'” and covers of rock ‘n’ roll standards made famous by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Ricky Nelson, Ritchie Valens and Gene Vincent.

The album reached number 4 in the UK album chart and spent 31 weeks on the chart – a time when the chart was only a top ten.

The Shadows (originally known as the Drifters) were an English instrumental rock group. They were Cliff Richard’s backing band from 1958 to 1968 and on numerous reunion tours. The Shadows have had 69 UK chart singles from the 1950s to the 2000s, 35 credited to the Shadows and 34 to Cliff Richard and the Shadows. The group, who were in the forefront of the UK beat-group boom, were the first backing band to emerge as stars. 32 Minutes and 17 Seconds with Cliff Richard is the fifth studio album by Cliff Richard (seventh album overall) and was released in September 1962. The album reached #3 on the UK Albums Chart. The album contains 14 songs, of blues and pop rock, six with the Shadows and eight with the Norrie Paramor Orchestra.

One single from the album, “It’ll Be Me” was released in August 1962 in the lead up to the album’s release and reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart.

In Canada, the album was released with the title “On Your Marks…Get Set…Lets Go!” It was released in June 1963 and spent six weeks at number 1 on Chum’s Album Index during July and August and thirteen weeks in the top 5.
