The new Album by Gábor Boldoczki is a musical journey of discovery to Versailles, to the court of the sun king, Louis XIV., The award-winning trumpeter, flute, and oboe Concerti of the French Baroque composer Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764), Michel Blavet (1700-1768), Jacques-Christophe Naudot (1690-1762) and Bonaventure Gilles (C. 1678-?) included in arrangements for Valve trumpet and flugelhorn. “The timbres and virtuosity resulting from the French decorations inspired me to interpret the atmosphere of Versailles on the trumpet for the first time,” says Gábor Boldoczki. “Unlike the natural trumpet of the time, which in the Baroque period is usually in a heavenly or stately context, the modern valve trumpet and flugelhorn allow the very melodic concerts to blossom into a new one with a brilliant, radiant and vocal sound.”The Album also presents four movements arranged for trumpet and orchestra from François Couperin’s (1668-1733) chamber music” Concerts Royaux “as well as a dance movement from the Opera” Les Boréades ” by Couperin’s colleague Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764). On his album” Versailles ” Boldoczki is accompanied by the Cappella Gabetta under the direction of violinist and Ensemble founder Andrés Gabetta.

The Baroque ensemble Cappella Gabetta was founded by the cellist Sol Gabetta and her brother, the violinist and conductor Andrés Gabetta, and within only a short time has evolved into one of the finest ensembles currently before the public. Its members are friends and are drawn from such prestigious ensembles as Il Giardino Armonico, the Basel Chamber Orchestra and other existing groups. Their early recordings for Sony Classical and dhm have already been highly praised. For their new album they have recorded a particularly attractive collection of works for Advent and Christmas. Christmas Concertos showcases two of the best-loved Italian Christmas concertos by Corelli and Locatelli in new benchmark recordings skilfully combined with Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto in E major (Il riposo) and three atmospheric Christmas works by lesser-known composers: Angelo Ragazzi’s Sonata a quattro op. 1 no. 12 (“Pastorale”), Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri’s Concerto a pastorale and Giuseppe Valentini’s Sinfonia per il santissimo Natale. The result is an atmospheric “Italian” Christmas album presented from an appealing angle.

This new recording by ‘Cappella Gabetta’, the ensemble founded by Sol Gabetta** and her baroque violin playing brother Andreas Gabetta, features music performed in the Austrian Habsburg court from the end of the 16th century through to the 17th century.

During this era the Habsburg court was actively incorporating Italian music. Except for the Vivaldi, the album concentrates on the work of the more unfamiliar composers, with an emphasis on the solo violin, expertly performed by Andreas Gabetta.

The ‘Cappella Gabetta’ has enabled Sol Gabetta to make one of her musical dreams come true. She, her brother – concertmaster Andres Gabetta – and a hand-picked team of highly qualified musicians from the same musical background devise repertoires of baroque and early classical music, which they perform on original instruments at concerts and in the studio.

As well as performing masterpieces by famous baroque and early classical composers, the Cappella is also keen to introduce audiences to rare gems by lesser known composers such as Giovanni Platti, Fortunato Chelleri, Andrea Zani and Johann Adolph Hasse. It has developed a particularly close working relationship with Schloss Wiesentheid music archive.

The ensemble was established in December 2010, and has already made very successful guest appearances in Paris (Salle Gaveau), Hamburg (Musikhalle), Munich (Prinzregententheater), Zurich (Tonhalle), Berlin (Philharmonie) and Istanbul, as well as at illustrious festivals such as the Bremen Music Festival, Festival Baroque de Lyon, Rheingau Music Festival and others.
