I don’t think Cæcilie Norby needs any special introduction. We all know her. She broke through with the orchestras Frontline and One Two years ago and has most recently appeared in the top of Pop. For more than 30 years she has marked herself as Scandinavia’s vocal queen and one of the most successful jazz musicians in Europe. Her music moves between jazz, blues, soul, pop, rock and classical. She mastered it all to perfection. On her brand new album “Earthenya” she returns to her jazzy pop-soul roots and demonstrates her vocal superiority NYE so emphatically. The album is her 14th. solo release and the first in 17 years in which all music is written by herself. You now have the opportunity to experience the Danish star on the estate, where she with her wonderful vocals takes us all into a groovy and sensual universe that enchants from the first touch. With great credibility, great empathy and an unsurpassed technical weight, her music tells the finest stories on topics that we can all nod recognizably to.

On Silent Ways, Danish vocalist Caecilie Norby interprets her favourite singer/songwriter melodies, from Bob Dylan to Paul Simon, CCR to Soundgarden, charging them up with classical and jazz influences. The almost chamber musical, tranquil form hinted at by the album’s title is classical, as is the emotional expressiveness of her interpretations. The jazzy approach lies in her singing technique, in the arrangements and the hand-picked musicians in the band improvising magically together.

Musical pigeonholes have never interested Danish singer Cæcilie Norby: “I have always been in search of catchy melodies – if you want to have a hit in the pop world, you need a strong melody. In jazz the central subject is that which opens a piece and, in classical music, even the grandest orchestral arrangements may become boring and flat if they aren’t carried by a natural melody.” For Norby it is the melody that is the essence of music, and the decisive criteria according to which she evaluates and chooses music which is free of any genre boundaries. It is an approach which mirrors her extraordinary career and is probably also the secret of her success.
