We often cite the Reunion tour as a demarcation between the “classic” and “modern” Springsteen eras. Yet this April already marks 23 years since the start of the Reunion tour in Barcelona. Do the math, and the E Street Band’s return in 1999 is inching ever closer to being the midpoint of their overall career—a line to be reached in 2026, at which point it will have been 27 years from the start of Reunion; and Reunion itself was 27 years after the band formed in 1972. Time flies.

Bruce Springsteen released a live archival recording of an E Street Band concert from C.W. Post College in Greenvale, New York on December 12, 1975.

1975 was a big year for Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. They released their landmark album Born To Run in August of that year before playing internationally in Canada and Europe as well as hitting major U.S. markets like Los Angeles, Boston and Philadelphia. But Bruce and the band — guitarist Stevie Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, organist Danny Federici, pianist Roy Bittan, bassist Garry Tallent and saxophonist Clarence Clemons — also did a run of universities late in the year of which the aforementioned gem of show from C.W Post College on Long Island was captured for posterity.

Although only some of Springsteen’s works indicate the name of the E Street Band on the envelopes, his most important albums – Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, Born in the U.S.A., The Rising – all relied on the musical accompaniment of the group.

In 2014, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in the category “Award for Musical Excellence”).

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The recording of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 1978 Agora show has gone down in history as one of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s best live sets ever. Bootleg recordings of the concert circulated for years, becoming a favorite of fans. And the concert was an early offering in Springsteen’s ongoing official archive release schedule, arriving way back in 2014.

Now, Springsteen has added another, more recent Cleveland show to the archive mix. On Friday, March 4, he released a live album of his 2009 concert at the Quicken Loans Arena (now known as the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse).

The December 13, 1992 Boston Garden show came in the midst of the Bruce Springsteen 1992–1993 World Tour, which saw The Boss hitting the road for the first time without the E Street Band (save for keyboardist Roy Bittan). Bruce had dissolved the band in 1989 and recorded the 1992 companion albums Human Touch and Lucky Town, of which the tour was in support, without his famed backing group.

Though Springsteen’s 1992-93 World Tour ran a full calendar year, his first outing sans E Street Band carried the sense of a perpetual work in progress for good reason.

Bruce had not one but two albums’ worth of material to integrate from Human Touch and Lucky Town; a challenging balance to strike between familiar and new material; and a bigger, rootsy-er band attempting to hold its own in the shadow of E Street, but from which he could summon the magical vocal power of a gospel choir. As my friend Aaron would say, a tricky biscuit.
