Pianist Bobby Troup’s 1955 session The Songs Of Bobby Troup showcases his smooth vocals and the talents of his band: valve trombonist Bob Enevoldsen, guitarist Howard Roberts, bassist Red Mitchell and drummer Don Heath. The album includes an assortment of rarities kicking off with the happy-go-lucky Cuckoo In The Clock, in addition to beautiful instrumental arrangements of Laura and Jeepers Creepers.

Bobby Troup is better known as the pianist and husband of Julie London. Here he strikes out on his own with disappointing reults. He & Julie also starred in a TV series many years ago.

He does a creditable job here with tunes such as “Mountain Greenery”; “I’ve Got my Love to keep me warm” “The Lady is a Tramp, while accompanying mhimself on piano.

A very talented arranger and composer, this album is pretty dissapointing, but I bought it out of curiousity.
