Emmy-nominated trumpeter, vocalist, and composer Benny Benack III will play DIzzy’s Club on Monday, June 26th, at 7:30 and 9:30 pms in a concert appropriately titled THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM Album release. This new recording by the jazz proficient is due out on June 30th on the La Reserve/Bandstand Presents label. On the album, Mr. Benack has assembled one of the best bands in New York, featuring longtime collaborator and pianist Emmet Cohen, joined by bassist Russell Hall and drummer Kyle Poole. Although THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM has yet to hit the streaming airwaves and online shopping platforms (there IS a physical CD available!), Benack has already released five singles from the album, the most recent being a recording of the Music Man composition “Gary, Indiana” that came out on May 26th. For his June 26th show, Mr. Benack will be showcasing his triple-threat skills in exciting new arrangements of much-loved classics, as well as sharing compositions of his own creation.

Season’s Swinging Greetings: Deluxe Edition is the culmination of a 3-year long holiday vision between arranger/pianist Steven Feifke and trumpeter/vocalist Benny Benack III. Recorded both in-person and utilizing remote recording during the pandemic, the deluxe edition includes a stellar string section on a number of tracks, as well as brand new holiday classic original material, plus familiar favorites in big band form. A bonus quartet track is included featuring a spirited romp through Sleigh Ride. Mixed and mastered by Dave Darlington at Bass Hit Studios in NYC, the full-length album features 10 tracks in total, including two singles (Sleigh Ride & Maoz Tsur). The personnel is a veritable who’s-who of New York’s finest musicians, including solo contributions from rising star reedist Alexa Tarentino, a vocal duet ft. Alita Moses, and even a special guest appearance by vibraphone master Warren Wolf, among others. The repertoire is a mix between original material penned by both Benack and Feifke, as well as an emphasis on re-energizing familiar holiday fare.

At the age of 26, Pittsburgh-born, New York-based Jazz musician Benny Benack III has been hailed by Nate Chinen of the New York Times as “a charismatic young trumpeter who maintains an earnest sideline as a singer”. As a dual-threat, he’s quickly established himself as one of the most versatile and virtuosic voices of his generation. He first made his mark internationally through competitions, highlighted by winning the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Soloist Competition (2011), and being a Finalist for the prestigious Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition (2014). After placing in a number of US vocal competitions as well (Gentleman Sing, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival), the stage was set for his bright career. Delivering on that early promise, he became a frequent collaborator with musicians such as Ulysses Owens Jr., Michael Dease, and Chihiro Yamanaka – recording with the latter on the iconic Blue Note Records label. Sought after as a trumpet soloist, he’s played in nearly every major big band, including the Christian McBride Big Band, Mingus Big Band, Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars, Jimmy Heath Big Band, and Bobby Sanabria’s Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra.
