A sumptuous recital. Winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2014, the young Belgian soprano Sheva Tehoval, with her absolutely magnificent timbre, offers in particular, through subtle sequences, three cycles of youth by three major composers of modernity. In 1888, Debussy (26) wrote his collection of six forgotten Ariette melodies, the same year as Strauss (24) wrote his M”adchenblumen. Ten years later, Sch”onberg (25) composed his 4 Lieder, Op. 2. Small foray into the contemporary era, with a triptych from 2004, Wolfgang Rihm’s Drei H”olderlin-Gedichte – number two, H”alfte des Lebens is very moving.
