Fractal is a septet around the Swiss jazz guitarist Jan Herzog. In 2013 he founded the “Extended in Motion Sextet” from which the “Fractal” septet emerged in 2014. The music of the ensemble moves from dense networks to intimate solos and duos, seemingly simple harmonic and rhythmic structures to complex grooves and soundscapes. Passages written out for a long time are contrasted by large forms of improvisation. In the course of a concert, the formation affects various musical states of composition, both in terms of composition and improvisation, in both small and large.

We present The Juniper Project in their debut duo recording in the format of a concert recital with a variety of Romantic and modern works from Debussy to Lutosƚawski. The album title is named for the Lutosƚawski but also to represent the inclusion of highlight movements from works by Marson and Rutter.

Greek flutist Anna Rosa Mari is a vibrant performer who has appeared around the world as a soloist, has been principal flute with the Chamber Orchestra of the Greek National Opera and has appeared with the Halle, BBC Philharmonic and many other leading orchestras.

Eira Lynn Jones is one of the UK’s leading harpists with a wide range of activities including concertising, recording and teaching. A regular freelancer with most top UK orchestras, previously a member of the Manhattan Contemporary Music Ensemble, New York, she is currently also head of Harp at the Royal Northern College of Music.

We now work as an original band paying tribute to Yes in our own unique way. Fruition is happy to announce their first ever live release, “Live, Vol. 1” which is due out January 7th, 2022. Drummer and Mixing Engineer Tyler Thompson shares “This album is a recording of a show at Visual Arts Collective in Boise, ID on February 10th, 2019. It was the end of a long tour, so we were definitely firing on all cylinders. Luckily, we didn’t even know the show was being recorded to multitrack, so the energy couldn’t be more honest and rowdy. It was so fun going back through these live tracks that it makes us feel there may be many more live albums in future.”

Eric D. Johnson, the creative force behind Fruit Bats, doesn’t spend a lot of time looking in the rearview mirror. “Maybe it speaks to some Midwest thing,” he says. “Don’t be overly reflective or navel-gazing. And as a songwriter, you always want to be looking forward, not backward.” But with the 20th anniversary of his first Fruit Bats release (2001’s Echolocation) on his mind, it seemed as good a time as any to take stock of his work—and he’s doing so in the form of Sometimes a Cloud Is Just a Cloud: Slow Growers, Sleeper Hits and Lost Songs (2001–2021), a two-disc collection that tracks the history of Fruit Bats from its earliest days to right now. Tenor Fritz Wunderlich is accompanied by pianist Hubert Giesen on this highly-praised vintage album recorded at the Academy of Music in Munich in 1965. In addition to the titular Schumann work, the programme also includes Lieder by Schubert and Beethoven. Wunderlich was only 35 when he recorded this, less than a year before his tragic accidental death.

“Amongst all the singers I have played with during 50 years, there was only one whom I really loved like a son: Fritz Wunderlich. Our friendship began late and it ended just three and a half years later due to Wunderlich’s sudden death, that, it is no exaggeration to say, shook the whole world of music severely.”

Matthew Locke was born 400 years ago in 1622, and while he is often ranked as one of England’s finest composers, he is still unaccountably neglected: his music may not be as immediately appealing as his immediate successor, Henry Purcell, nor as wide- ranging as William Byrd, yet his forceful musical personality and luxuriant technique place him in the first echelon of English composers, with his works described by Richard Boothby of Fretwork as having a “quixotic, capricious restlessness that is constantly challenging the listener to follow his argument … a thrilling musical ride”. Accompanying Fretwork on continuo for this recording are David Miller (archlute and theorbo) and Silas Wollston (harpsichord).
