Sidney Matthew Sweet is an American rock singer-songwriter and musician. He was part of the burgeoning music scene in Athens, Georgia, during the 1980s before gaining commercial success in the 1990s. “100% Fun” is his fifth album. The album was met with moderate commercial success and favorable reviews. The single “Sick of Myself” reached #2 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart and appeared on the top 100 pop song charts of the day. Critic David Browne of Entertainment Weekly, who included 100% Fun on his year’s-best list, wrote in his review that it “makes you feel as if a good pop hook can solve any crisis”. The title of the album was derived from Kurt Cobain’s 1994 suicide note.

Matt Bianco – Matt’s Mood (2004) MCH SACD ISO + Hi-Res FLAC

Matt Bianco – Matt’s Mood (2004)
PS3 Rip | SACD ISO | DST64 2.0 & 5.1 > 1-bit/2.8224 MHz | 44:17 minutes | Scans included | 2,69 GB
or FLAC 2.0 Stereo (converted with foobar2000 to tracks) 24bit/88,2 kHz | Full Scans included | 907 MB

Formed by ex-members of modern jazz ensemble Blue Rondo a la Turk, Matt Bianco evolved into one of England’s top jazz-pop bands.

The contemporary jazz group Matt Bianco enjoyed considerable success in the ’80s, but the band was short-lived. It originally included a singer named Basia, who soon after the band’s demise embarked on a successful solo career, keeping Bianco keyboardist Danny White as a collaborator. More than 20 years later, Matt Bianco has reformed, and from the sound of their reunion album, Matt’s Mood (Decca), the group members seem to be enjoying making music together again. Basia and the band’s other original singer, Mark Reilly, share vocal responsibilities; the Brazilian “Ordinary Day” features harmonies unmistakably Basia, and while Reilly sings lead on the jazzy “Wrong Side of the Street,” Basia takes a chorus in her native Polish. The playful “Ronnie’s Samba” salutes deceased saxophonist Ronnie Ross, who played in Matt Bianco’s original incarnation. One quibble: The fadeout at the end of the closing track, “Matt’s Mood III,” makes the tune feel unfinished-such a vigorous instrumental jam really calls for a decisive ending-but overall this is a fun and welcomed comeback album.

Together with soloists, the choir La Capella Nacional de Catalunya and the orchestra Le Concert des Nations, a new interpretation was developed in intensive rehearsals, and six concerts, which is now available. Says Savall: “Rarely has a composition been so strongly shaped by the genius and suffering of a human being.”

Jean-Paul Gasparian – Debussy (2023) [Official Digital Download 24bit/96kHz]

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 01:08:03 minutes | 1,04 GB | Genre: Classical

Jean-Paul Gasparian is one of the most promising young pianists. There is a consensus on this not only in music criticism. The audience is also regularly enchanted by the poetic intensity of his playing in combination with his light-footed perfection. The young Frenchman, who was awarded numerous prizes after his studies at the Paris National Conservatoire, comes to the castle courtyard with a program that exemplifies the breadth of his skills. The floating, shimmering sounds of Claude Debussy’s groundbreaking Préludes require a high degree of delicacy of sound and at the same time creative finesse. The monumental piano sonata in F minor op. 5 by Johannes Brahms complements the musical panorama with the highest passion and a wide range of feelings. The five movements of the sonata are full of emotion and of overwhelming sonority. The compositional density of this exceptional work is also enormous: the musical complexity and the richness of relationships are in no way inferior to the expressiveness.

Pierre Sancan was a tremendously influential figure in French musical life, as a composer, pianist, teacher, and conductor, but remains relatively unknown outside France. Born in Mazamet, in 1916 – the same year as Dutilleux – he received his early musical training in Morocco and, later, Toulouse. He entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1934 where he studied with Jean Gallon, conducting with Charles Munch and Roger Désormière, piano with Yves Nat, and composition with Henri Busser. He won the Prix de Rome in 1943, and eventually joined the staff in 1956, teaching there until his retirement, in 1985. A list of his piano students reads like a who’s who of French pianists and includes Michel Béroff, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Daniel Varsano, Jacques Rouvier, Jean-Philippe Collard, and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. Yan Pascal Tortelier, whilst not a direct student of Sancan, attended the Paris Conservatoire while he taught there, and remembers his influence: ‘of course through his extraordinary pianistic imagination but even more so by his physical allure and overwhelming personality’. This programme of the Piano Concerto, orchestral works, works for solo piano, and the flute Sonatine (played by Adam Walker) serves as a personal tribute to Sancan from both pianist and conductor, who very much hope that it will help to raise awareness of this gifted composer and his music.

Nielsen’s epic Violin Concerto was premiered in Copenhagen in February 1912, by violinist Peder Moller. Nominally the work is set in two movements; both open with a slow section and move to a faster one. Whilst unusual, this could be seen as a more usual fast – slow – fast three movement form, but with an extensive slow introduction to the first movement. The music moves quickly from one idea to the next, and overall has a bold, playful and optimistic feel. In stark contrast, although written only a few years later, the fourth symphony is more cohesive and unified as a work. Written against the background of the first world war, the work is a celebration of life itself. Just before the premier in 1916, Nielsen described it as: ‘Music is Life, and, like it, inextinguishable.’ Composed in the usual four movement form, each movement continues from the last without a break. The final movement features two sets of timpani battling each other across the orchestra.
