Erin Helyard, Musical Director of Pinchgut Opera, says of this madrigal – “The Quarrel of the Five Senses is one of Strozzi’s more whimsical madrigals. Which of the five senses is the greatest? Which one brings us the greatest joy? Well, just one little kiss, which unites all the senses, can make everything overflow, so let the heart that craves love be the judge, Strozzi says. Con Costi, Charlotte Mungomery, and I loved the light-hearted playfulness of this madrigal and I think we really brought out Strozzi’s quirkiness in our approach to this charming piece.”
