The large baroque organ of the Jakobikirche in Stralsund, whose case we still see today, was built in 1741 by Christian Gottlieb Richter From Stettin. In 1779-1783 Ernst Marx from Berlin and in 1870-1877 Friedrich Albert Daniel Mehmel from Stralsund built a new Instrument using numerous old components. In 1945 the Jakobikirche suffered a bomb hit at the southwest corner of the aisle. The damage made it possible to penetrate into the church. The organ was robbed of almost all metal pipes in the following time and furthermore severely damaged in all areas. The Dresden organ workshop of Kristian Wegscheider built a new, three-manual organ with a 51-sounding voices in a consistent Production and sound aesthetics of the 18th century. Century. This organ is at the same time a new, but also a historical Instrument, because it takes the best organs of the 18th century as its model in the conception and craftsmanship of the present time. In the course of the restoration of the instrument, which began in 2017 and could be completed in 2020, the case has also been completely restored and reconstructed in its old Dimension and construction with all the carvings.

The program of this recording, the first on the new Instrument, arose from the idea of selecting a Repertoire particularly suitable for the Instrument of the time of Johann Sebastian Bach, his generation of teachers and pupils, which presents the organ in as many compositional forms and registrations as possible. The chorale variations by Daniel Magnus Gronau experience their first recording here.
