Violinist Fenella Humphreys brings you a new album with Rubicon Classics after her 2023 BBC Magazine Premiere Award-winning album ‘Caprices’. Fenella brings a unique programme called ‘Prism’, which focuses on unaccompanied violin works. These consist of new works written by young British composers such as Michael Small, Bethan Morgan-Williams and Cheryl Frances-Hoad to more iconic contemporary works by British and American compoosers such as Caroline Shaw, Jessie Montgomery, George Walker and the wonderful Sir Peter Maxwell Davies!
The highlight of the album is Fenella’s new arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue BWV 565.

The Dudok Quartet Amsterdam embarks on a traversal of three String Quartets by Tchaikovsky. This is the first of two volumes containing String Quartet’s 1 & 2.
The circles in which Tchaikovsky and Brahms lived have a lot in common; it feels like a logical step in their artistic evolution. Even more so than Brahms, however, Tchaikovsky is also public property: in addition to the innumerable amount of recordings and performances of Eugene Onegin, the First Piano Concerto and the Andante Cantabile, the appropriations of ‘The Brand of Tchaikovsky’ pour over one another.
Writer, lawyer and philosopher Maxim Februari writes an essay at the request of the Dudoks, exploring how one could relate to Tchaikovsky in the 21st century. Quoting from Everything changes and Tchaikovsky changes along with it: ‘Like the audience later in the concert hall, the quartet has to reconcile these temporalities and eternities, give gravity to lightness and bring lightness to gravity. And all that preferably without being too pretentious. That’s quite a task.’

With “Arias in Blue”, the Bastian Walcher Quartet, together with soprano Cathrin Lange, presents an album that transcends the boundaries of musical genres. The spectrum ranges from original compositions in the style of the 1930s to new arrangements of well-known baroque arias by Bach, Rachmaninoff and Handel, paired with an electro-chill sound.
A standout track on the album is “Erbarme dich”, one of the most famous arias from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “St Matthew Passion” from 1727. This piece of music represents a high point both within the Passion and in Bach’s entire oeuvre and expresses a deep spiritual and emotional dimension, while the text expresses the plea for mercy and compassion. In the jazz version by the Bastian Walcher Quartet, the aria, which was originally composed for alto voice, is sung by soprano Cathrin Lange. The trumpet takes on the comforting counterpart in place of the oboe.

SOUTHERN STEEL “Get On Through” out of Miami, Florida in 1974 firmly resides in the upper realms of rare early ’70s southern rock LPs and the brilliant guitar interplay, vibrant vocals and finely crafted songs will seriously grab late ’60s westcoast rock ears as well. It’s really accessible stuff, heartfelt country inflected vocals with appealing vivid guitar textures and rhythms that fly. Echoes of Buffalo Springfield, Flying Burrito Brothers, Byrds, more on the rock than the country side but genuine about both. It’s southern but it’s also eastcoast-westcoast. In fact the opening track titled “San Francisco Man” is loaded with searing guitar licks and propulsive rhythmic action hitting pleasure points similar to the first Moby Grape LP. “Get On Through” contains thoughtful song oriented outdoors rock with little in the way of “south’s gonna rise again” attitude, bluesy grit, bad women, whiskey, or hard livin’ roadhouse action. These guys genuinely sound turned on to life, everyday regular dude seeker post ’60s style and it is contagious. You can really feel it when the sweet southern fried dual guitar leads cascade out at just the right moment.

The work summarized his whole life, which had been lived between two worlds: opera and film and between Europe and the United States. Last Temptation with their 2nd album “Fuel For My Soul”. Founded by guitarist Peter Scheithauer (Killing Machine, Belladonna, Temple of Brutality) and singer Butcho Vukovic (Watcha, Showtime), with bassist Julien Rimaire (Los Dissidentes Del Sucio Motel) Vocalist Butcho Vukovic (Watcha, Showtime), with bassist Julien Rimaire (Los Dissidentes Del Sucio Motel) and drummer Vince Brisach (Mitch Ryder), the band has a whole new rhythm section the band has a whole new rhythm section to support them on “Fuel for my Soul”. “Fuel for my Soul” has a completely different production style to the band’s The band’s debut album.
The band had over 40 demos before finally narrowing it down to 11 hard-hitting tracks All rhythm tracks, bass, drums and guitars were recorded live, and the songs are far more diverse than the previous release. While Last Temptation still still retain their Ozzy / Black Sabbath influences, they add a grungy twist, along with big choruses that give an 80s vibe vibe. A big step forward for Last Temptation.
