The First and Fourth Symphonies of the Swiss composer Richard Flury (1896–1967) both have a strong sense of place. They retain a hint of Bruckner but are fluid rather than monumental. The First is lyrical and grandiose in equal measure, perhaps reflecting the grandeurs of the Swiss landscape. The Fourth was inspired by memories of childhood visits to Liechtenstein and spins out tunes and atmosphere with the profligacy of a Hollywood film score. The existing material for both works was full of errors; this recording is the first to return to Flury’s manuscripts and expunge the wrong notes.

Balázs Rodek tells us “Playing live is always special. I like the whole process, for me it is like preparing for an Olympic event.
I start preparing weeks before the gig. The goal is to know the songs really well, really deep, to know every aspect of the material, to get your best shape for the concert. When I practice, I always look for new ideas, fresh thoughts for a song, even if I played that for a long time. Because in this way I believe you can open the door for all the good energies that hopefully will occur during your concert and minimize the risk of making mistakes.
Mistakes… well, we are not machines. We do mistakes – sometimes you hit the wrong note at the wrong time etc., but for me it doesn’t matter. Mistakes make the music live, so I try to handle them as a part of the music. How can I make them sound good? How can we make them fit into context? That is the point I think.
Of course, the preparation period can be frustrating, exhausting. Sometimes it is really hard to concentrate, hard to get the motivation, to face self-doubt—just like training for a sport event. But in the end, I know all is worth it.”

For his first album since 2015’s Return of the Tender Lover, Babyface pairs up with established and emergent contemporary R&B artists, all of whom are women younger than his first solo hit. Although the rotational co-headliner nature of the album might bring to mind Lucky Daye’s Table for Two – a Grammy-winning recording that happens to feature a few of the singers on-board here – it’s quite different, not strictly duets, with Babyface most often in a supporting role. It all plays out like an experiment or exercise rather than a proper album. Each song was written and recorded in a day, and since the women are always at the fore, the set comes across as a method for Babyface to adapt to writing and producing for considerably younger artists, and as a way to put himself out there to continue collaborating with that generation. Most of these songs would be fine deep cuts on LPs by Babyface’s guests. Unsurprisingly, those who have either directly referenced or evoked ’80s and ’90s R&B – especially Ella Mai, Muni Long, and Kehlani – turn out to be most compatible. Production-wise, Babyface splits duties with an assortment of collaborators including D’Mile, Khris Riddick-Tynes, and Sir Dylan (son of Tony! Toni! Toné!’s Dwayne Wiggins, and onetime Kehlani bandmate). Echoes from Babyface’s past – samples of the tender lover’s own “Whip Appeal” and “Soon as I Get Home,” and Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk” – are integrated in clever, subtle fashion.

In addition to exploring the hitherto unknown treasures of Hungarian folk music, as a composer and folklorist Béla Bartók (1881-1945) worked tirelessly to collect and study the folk music of the surrounding peoples. He looked for ancient, old-style melodies: those that were the most typical of different ethnicities. He found these in peasant communities where, in the early 20th century, people still led a traditional form of life. He also examined how neighboring communities influenced each other’s folk music. From 1909 to 1918 he collected nearly 3500 Romanian instrumental and vocal melodies.

Transit Of Life nace como una manera de honrar la memoria de la madre de dos de los integrantes de la banda, quienes tenían como idea inicial componer sólo un track de larga duración que reviviera diversos capítulos de la vida de “Rosa”. Sin embargo, luego de una reunión con Germán Torres, director del sello discográfico IGED, llegaron a la conclusión de que lo mejor sería hacer un EP conceptual.
De este modo, hicieron realidad este trabajo, con un sonido muy limpio, pesado y melancólico, lleno de emociones e intensidad, reviviendo los distintos capítulos de la vida de una persona.

Of all the African-American jazz musicians who arrived in Paris at the end of the ‘60s Saxophonist Archie Shepp was arguably the most influential. Still resident in the French capital to this day, he became an integral part of the European scene and struck fruitful working relationships with the likes of German pianist Joachim Kuhn. “The Fox” is a concert for viola and orchestra, inspired by the archaic music of early renaissance with a hint of romantic and modern music. The film tells the true-life story of a young Austrian soldier in WWII, and is about friendship and love in the most difficult circumstances as the protagonist befriends a little fox puppy he finds abandoned in the woods.
The viola plays a central part in the musical storytelling, as it reflects the inner world and the spiritual change of the protagonist. The string section reflects this journey while it oscillates between a wider and embracing full orchestral sound and moments of intimate chamber music.
