The first sounds of “How Are You Doing”, the opener of the second blackout problem album “Kaos”, captivate immediately. You want to move, you want to sing along. At the same time, the LP can not be forced into any genre right from the beginning – every song sounds different. While “How Are You Doing” is reminiscent of Biffy Clyro, the single-song title song is more like the sound of The 1975. The mix of alternative, indie and sometimes electronic sounds makes the album more versatile than the Munich band’s recent releases.

While the quartet is musically convincing and a clear progression can be felt, the lyrics are still not fully developed. Of course, the blackout problems have a lot to tell and say, but lyrical sophistication is sought in vain. »Kaos« addresses insecurity, doubt and resignation, it describes situations in which life suddenly begins to crumble and one loses the ground under one’s feet. Through such strong content and the even stronger musical development can be overlooked over the lyrical weakness quite. Blackout problems do what many young British and American bands fail to do: they leave a lasting impression.
