I tell you what – everything has its shelf life. Except these insatiable obsessive fragments of spirit that we cant shake and make us do stupid things like devote serious time to an unserious pursuit like amateur music making. I just try to not think and see what comes out, then you hear you are meant to be a fascist editor once the basic form is there, and, well, that part is a dog chewing on its own innards. But here it is, something kind of childish, angry but middle age frustrated too. Political but selfish and powerless. Before the editorial faculty arrived, it was meant to be about hidden power and about a protagonist i guess is someone i wish i had met, to help them make sense of things. But in the end, its just me.

With funky, soulful riffs, rampant melodies, hooky songcraft and markedly smooth production, Holy Roller Baby sound like a band with some measure of experience behind them on their upcoming debut album, Frenzy. As well they should since the Texas-based band (Austin and Dallas) features three-fourths of the defunct Heavy Glow. Jared Mullins, Nick Snyder and Patrick Smith from that band join up with drummer Luke Callaway — also in Snyder‘s bluesy solo-ish project, Nick Snyder & The Real Deal, which released a debut EP in March — and while there remains a strong current of Josh Homme-style melody in Mullins‘ voice, Holy Roller Baby feel immediately less restrained by heavy rock convention than the prior outfit. Eschewing psychedelic elements for an earthier feel, a cut like “Blue Devin Inn” finds its way into the ethereal nonetheless, likewise the closer “Mantra,” and the starts and stops of “Id Vicious” and the strut of “Ravings at Your Window” expand on the core desert-hued familiarity one might hear in the opener “Leper Blues/Spread Your Love Around” and a song like “Eve.” It is an encouraging debut, built with a clear intention toward reaching out to an audience beyond the heavy rock underground and offering everyone a glimpse at what they’ve been missing.

This is the fourth studio album “Hello My Beautiful World” from Tim Carroll and Oscar Dawson.
“We were given all the freedom in the world to do whatever we wanted, and this is what we did,” explained the band’s Tim Carroll in a statement. “The songs dwell in the details of living. Dreams are a theme. Dreams you have when you’re sleeping. Not the dreams you come up with when you’re awake. Not a series of desires. Dreams where you have no control, and you scare yourself.”
To coincide with the announcement, the duo have shared new single ‘Believe Anything’, a song which “examines the changing nature of truth” and features treatment from Gab Strum (aka Japanese Wallpaper). It’s a sharp, searing cut that’s anchored by a snaking bassline, menacing synths and flourishes of strings.

Arriving at a moment where attention spans are shot and anxieties are going into overdrive, Deleter, Holy Fuck’s fifth studio LP, is a defiantly full-bodied affair. Their performance of Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra and Holst’s The Planets is already a point of reference in the UK after the immensely successful Prom concert that preceded the recording. Hands up if you’re a sucker for music that rips your heart clean out of your chest, throws it to the ground and, without mercy, cha-chas all over it. Fans of said genre may already be familiar with the deep timbre of Brighton-based alt-country’s Holly Macve; new recruits are going to catch on quickly by way of cinematic new album ‘Not The Girl’.
Having taken ample time off between records to explore and re-arrange her sound, Holly’s second album is dressed in a multitude of textures ranging from yearning heaviness over moody, tear-stained moments to grunge-infused dreamscapes.
Deeper and darker than debut album ‘Golden Eagle’, ‘Not The Girl’ is laced, not only with a firm sense of direction, but a distinct air of intent: Holly Macve is reaching for higher ground. An ambition that is most notable on title-track ‘Not The Girl’ with its slow-moving dramaturgy, but it’s on murder ballad ‘Behind The Flowers’ that Holly shows the full extent of her songwriting prowess. Entirely fictional of course, the track tells the haunting story of a girl who kills her abusive father. Dark imagery gives life to even darker imagination (“the last word he said was the first time I felt free”) and creates a sense of morbid fascination –a definite must listen for true-crime lovers and amateur detectives.

Recorded in Toronto at Inception Sound Studios and McClear Digital Studios Baby, It’s Cold Outside was co-produced by Cole and her long-time accompanist, pianist Aaron Davis who also provided the dazzling orchestral arrangements for the 27-piece orchestra featured on four selections: Zat You Santa Claus, Santa Baby, Wildwood Carol, and the title track.
Also appearing on the album as core members backing Cole are: David Piltch and George Koller (bass), Mark Kelso (drums), and Brian Barlow (percussion). Baby, It’s Cold Outside possesses a diverse spectrum of seasonal emotions. It is not just Christmas favourites. It is not a bunch of chestnuts roasting on the open fire. It’s obvious by listening to it that Cole likes to poke fun at Christmas; likes to poke fun at the notion of Santa Claus; and really likes to swing with songs that have bit of sexual innuendo. There’s a lot of give-me-a-break about the album.
Cole chose Christmas songs with the same critical ear as all of her previous recordings. Not only did she take care in selecting the repertoire, but she set out to interpret them in such a fashion that they effectively are her own.

Hollow Haze is an Italian melodic metal act originally formed in 2003 by guitarist Nick Savio and recently revamped following his departure from the band Eternal Idol, which he had put together in 2016 with metal vocalist Fabio Lione (Angra, Rhapsody, Hollow Haze, etc). Hollow Haze had released six studio albums before Savio started Eternal Idol, while the new look line-up now features vocalist Fabio Dessi (Arthemis) and drummer Paolo Caridi (MLB) alongside Savio and longtime bassist Davide Cestaro.“In the past few years, we were all involved in other projects, but now I am back to my first creation,Hollow Haze,” says Savio. “Here I can play with amazing musicians without compromise. The new album is a natural evolution of the band’s sound. Occupying a space between Super Furry Animals and Soft Machine – Hollow Hand’s debut album is released via Talkshow Records. The album is a celebration of beauty, romance and mythology in history and art. Anger has always been a natural response to injustice. But the work of Syd Barrett, The Grateful Dead (both acts who have influenced Hollow Hand) and countless other artists in the 1960s / 1970s demonstrate how revolt can be achieved through aesthetics as well as the primal. An entirely DIY project, the album was recorded at the bottom of a leafy garden, a home-made studio pieced together by three friends. Nature plays a crucial role in Hollow Hand’s sound. A 2018 album inspired by nature, beauty and above all positivity.

Hollis Brown is a group that lives up to the blue-collar legacy of their hometown. But, as evidenced on their new album ‘Ozone Park’, there’s also a great deal of sophistication in the mix with rich melodicism and advanced harmonics that allows Hollis Brown to blend a wealth of influences into their own distinctive sound. “I think with this record we wanted to make a statement,” explains Montali. “Rock music can still be done in a modern way that is still as good as some of those acts from the past.”
