This November, Sony’s Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. will reissue a 50th anniversary edition of Jimi Hendrix‘s third and final studio album Electric Ladyland.
This new edition of the 1968 album will be available as a 3CD+blu-ray set or a 6LP+blu-ray edition. Via the blu-ray, both include a new 5.1 surround sound mix by Eddie Kramer, 24 bit/96 kz high resolution stereo audio, as well as a documentary on the making of the landmark record.
The album has been newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analogue tapes. This is of course the first CD and being a double this is obviously spread across two records for the vinyl set. Audiophiles will be delighted to hear that Grundman prepared an all analog direct-to-disc vinyl transfer of the album.
The second CD (or the next two LPs for the vinyl box) feature ‘More Electric Ladyland: The Early Takes’ which presents 20 never before heard demos and studio outtakes. Some of these are intimate demos for song ideas Hendrix recorded himself on a reel-to-reel tape at the Drake Hotel, as well as early recording session takes featuring guest appearances from Buddy Miles, Stephen Stills and Al Kooper

The ever-surprising Jorge Rossy! The music world discovered him as the drummer in the pianist Brad Mehldau’s trio for a decade, and with whom he contributed to profoundly reinventing the “art of the trio” in one of the most important jazz groups of the time. Yet it was initially as a trumpeter that Jorge Rossy had been admitted as a student at the celebrated Berklee College of Music in Boston a few years earlier, and which had allowed him to join the elite ranks of world-class jazz musicians. Later, after leaving Brad Mehldau’s trio and back in his native Barcelona, the decision of the Catalan to devote himself to the piano instrument which he played in various groups and recorded several albums (including the first under his own name) surprised those who expected him to capitalize on the fame acquired playing drums with the pianist. And then in 2016 he emerged once again playing a different instrument, leading from the vibes a quintet that included some of today’s most prestigious jazz musicians, of which his new album is the second avatar.

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was held on February 10, 2019, at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Singer-songwriter Alicia Keys hosted.
The ceremony recognized the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, which ran from October 1, 2017, to September 30, 2018. Nominations were announced on December 7, 2018.
Dolly Parton was honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year two days prior to the Grammy Awards on February 8, 2019.
Kendrick Lamar led the nominations with eight. Childish Gambino and Kacey Musgraves tied for the most wins of the night with four each.
