The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers (1971) [Japanese Limited SHM-SACD 2011 # UIGY-9066] {PS3 ISO + FLAC}

The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers (1971) [Japanese Limited SHM-SACD 2011 # UIGY-9066]
PS3 Rip | ISO | SACD DSD64 2.0 > 1-bit/2.8224 MHz | 40:15 minutes | Scans included | 1,87 GB
or FLAC(converted with foobar2000 to tracks) 24bit/88,2 kHz | Scans included | 960 MB

Pieced together from outtakes and much-labored-over songs, Sticky Fingers manages to have a loose, ramshackle ambience that belies both its origins and the dark undercurrents of the songs. It’s a weary, drug-laden album — well over half the songs explicitly mention drug use, while the others merely allude to it — that never fades away, but it barely keeps afloat. Apart from the classic opener, “Brown Sugar” (a gleeful tune about slavery, interracial sex, and lost virginity, not necessarily in that order), the long workout “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” and the mean-spirited “Bitch,” Sticky Fingers is a slow, bluesy affair, with a few country touches thrown in for good measure. The laid-back tone of the album gives ample room for new lead guitarist Mick Taylor to stretch out, particularly on the extended coda of “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.” But the key to the album isn’t the instrumental interplay — although that is terrific — it’s the utter weariness of the songs. “Wild Horses” is their first non-ironic stab at a country song, and it is a beautiful, heart-tugging masterpiece. Similarly, “I Got the Blues” is a ravished, late-night classic that ranks among their very best blues. “Sister Morphine” is a horrifying overdose tale, and “Moonlight Mile,” with Paul Buckmaster’s grandiose strings, is a perfect closure: sad, yearning, drug-addled, and beautiful. With its offhand mixture of decadence, roots music, and outright malevolence, Sticky Fingers set the tone for the rest of the decade for the Stones.

Furthermore, there are four songs composed by the Beach Boys – “Little Saint Nick,” “Man With All the Toys,” “Santa’s Beard,” and “Merry Christmas, Baby” – which begin the album. This mix of favorites and originals makes this a balanced holiday album that should please both Beach Boys admirers and those unfamiliar with the group.

Neil Young will open his archive and release Hitchhiker, an unreleased new studio album. The 10-track acoustic solo album was recorded in Malibu, CA at Indigo Studio in 1976. The original session was produced by Young’s long-time studio collaborator David Briggs.

Recorded between Zuma and American Stars and Bars as a solo album in a single session, the resultant performances are truly breathtaking and passionate. The simplicity of a single voice and guitar captured here is as pure and powerful as it gets, with only Young, Briggs and actor Dean Stockwell in the room at the time of recording. A few of the songs would not appear on vinyl until years later. Some have never been heard, included in the original sessions for Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s Dume, another unreleased record of original sessions that yielded the classic album, Zuma. When the Hitchhiker album was recorded, none of the included songs had ever been released and many of the performances of the songs were the first ever.

This is truly an album of original performances.

Peace Trail features all new songs that Young wrote since the release of his album EARTH, this past June. This new album is primarily acoustic and reflects an intimate, sparse approach to each of the ten songs within.

“Neil Young matches the fire in his belly to the poetry from his pen for one of the most gripping outings of his long career. This riveting collection, a spare acoustic-electric hybrid, seethes with righteous indignation over a plethora of social and political injustices, but also soothes with deeply felt empathy for those on the receiving end of iniquity.” – Los Angeles Times / Randy Lewis

Marlon Rabenreither, better known as Gold Star, is a singer, songwriter and producer from Los Angeles, CA. Marlon spent most of his early music career playing dive bars around Los Angeles in rock and roll bands and eventually found that he had a passion for Americana. He has shared the stage with such acts as Lucinda Williams and Ryan Bingham and has worked with some of LA’s most sought after session players. “Big Blue” is a mix of late 60’s rock and roll with the soul of early blues and country music. The songs are to the point, full of nostalgia and make you feel like you stepped into a time machine.

Goldie – The Journey Man (2017) [Official Digital Download 24bit/44,1kHz]

The king of the jungle is alive and well! At 52, Clifford Price, aka Goldie, doesn’t let his guard down and proves it with this bold Journey Man (more than a hundred and five minutes of music!), his first real album in nine years. Obviously, the drum & bass reigns supreme here but the dentists’ friend also navigates towards (the) trip-hop, (the) smooth jazz, the ballroom funk, the progressive rock and the neo soul. The 90s during which he was the king of the electro may be far gone, but the big guy, more gluttonous than ever, is older and wiser, and excels here in the design of his album to listen in one go, like a unique trip tagged by various sequences. Surprisingly, he mostly shines in the more melancholic moments, in the ballads with a serene groove. Above all, Goldie is smart enough to stay in his own backyard and doesn’t try to look younger by exploiting the new music trends.

Following the more intimate folktronica sound of 2013’s Tales of Us, it’s not surprising that Goldfrapp’s seventh and latest full-length studio album, Silver Eye, is a return to the band’s uptempo electronic dance pop sound of Supernature and Black Cherry. For this particular new record, the duo worked with a couple of new collaborators, including John Congleton, whose production credits include St. Vincent and Wild Beasts; the British duo even went to Dallas to work with Congleton!
